COVID 19 RELIEF: Ikot Ibok village gifts hundreds of indigenes juicy palliative packages

About 300 indigenes of Ikot Ibok Village in Etinan Local Government Area have received goody bags containing foodstuff courtesy of their kinsmen, who pooled resources to cushion the effect of the COVID 19 scourge, by providing for their kith and kin.

The initiative was an act of kindness to the rural people living in the Southern Etinan community.

It is no longer news that the world has been under siege of the global pandemic which has crippled economic activities for months, making it necessary for government and non-governmental organizations to implement intervention schemes to alleviate the living condition of citizens, following the impact of the COVID 19 outbreak. One of such is the ‘Ikot Ibok COVID 19 Relief ‘ programme

In a chat with the coordinator of the initiative, who is the Group Politics Editor of THISDAY Newspapers and native of Ikot Ibok, Nseobong Okon-Ekong, he said the engine of the project was fired by his sister and Chapter Chairperson of Akwa Ibom State Association in New Jersey, Gloria Okon Ekong with the active collaboration of other compatriots resident in America and different Nigerian cities, as a channel for well meaning indigenes of Ikot Ibok village at home and in diaspora to give back to their people.

Some of the clergies who spoke at the event were Major Friday Akpan Idiok of The Salvation Army and Rev. Mary Anthony Akpan of Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, who in their prayer and vote of thanks respectively evoked the blessings from the Almighty God on the donors and the village as a whole.

The forum of donors for the Ikot Ibok COVID-19 Relief include Barrister Victor Abasiakan-Ekim, Nseobong Okon-Ekong, Dr. Godwin Noah, Mr. Solomon Akpan, Engr. Sylvester Essien, Mr. Michael Okon-Inyang, Elder Etebom Ekanem, Elder Udo Umoren and Itoro Monday.

Others are Elder Udo Rowland, Mr. Sunday Udo-Inokon, Mr. Uyime Ekere Udoh, Elder John J. Uko, Barrister Iniodu Bassey, Pastor Michael Umanah, Mrs. Ekaette McDuff, Mrs. Joy Essien, Mr. Ishmael Essien, Mrs. Eme Essien-Obong, Mr. Abraham Umoren, Mr. Samuel (King) Ekpo, Eteidung Etebom Inyang, Glorious Christ Kingdom Church and Friends of Gloria Ekong.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the donors for remembering them in these challenging times, when the world is facing an economic recession due to the COVID 19 lockdown.
